Shemoy's Story

Shemoy Simpson was training to be a receptionist at an art center when she realized the role was not what she thought it would be nor her passion. She discovered Custom Collaborative in early 2019 and joined the program in March of that year. One thing that consistently stood out to Sheymoy was the kind gestures of support the Custom Collaborative team offered to her and the other participants. With ambition and determination, Shemoy graduated from the Training Institute in June of 2019. Her designs specialize in leather dresses and suits for women. Although, she would like to expand into other ready to wear garments.

“My career goals are to become a fashion designer who can make a difference in the industry and to produce good quality custom made garments that make [my] customers happy.”

Shemoy aspires to be a confident, better version of herself as a designer through diligent practice to improve her skills. In February 2021, fashion education platform University of Fashion partnered with Custom Collaborative by granting full access to the UoF fashion content library. Shemoy leveraged this opportunity to better her skillset. “My experience with the University of Fashion was amazing. I've learned a lot and [am] applying those techniques to my recent project.”

The University of fashion has taught me to be more knowledgeable about the way I construct a garment and with the confidence and consistency to deliver in the real world.” Shemoy via Uof Blog
